Tis the Season

There is nothing more "Christmassy" (is that really a word?) than watching How the Grinch Stole Christmas. It has become my tradition to watch the cartoon the night we put up the Christmas tree and sing along to all the goofy songs. I'm hooked. I can't help it. Sometimes I feel like my heart is 2 sizes too small...I can relate.

A few months ago while partaking in my favorite Sunday pasttime...sitting in jammies with a cup of coffee, BF reading afat New York Times....something jumped out at me. The Grinch was going to be on Broadway! ( check out www.thegrinchmusical.com wOOt! (to steal my Bf's fav computer expression) I showed the ad to my son, whom I am also grooming to be a huge Grinch fan, and he was psyched. Tickets were purchased for the day after his birthday, thus beginning our holiday season in full swing.

I have to tell you...it was awesome. I am not really sure who was more excited afterwards - him, me or the BF. It might have been me, even though it was a first B'way show for the both of them. The show stayed very true to Suess' original, and was very cleverly adapted for stage.

Afterwards, dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory. Here's a bit of parental advise: If your kid embarrasses easily, it might not be such a good idea to have the waitstaff sing "Happy Birthday". Mine wanted to crawl under the table during the whole production. Mental note...sing only at home next year!

You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch.
You really are a heel.
You're as cuddly as a cactus,
You're as charming as an eel.
Mr. Grinch. You're a bad bananaWith a greasy black peel.
You're a monster, Mr. Grinch.
Your heart's an empty hole.
Your brain is full of spiders,
You've got garlic in your soul.
Mr. Grinch.I wouldn't touch you, with a thirty-nine-and-a-half foot pole.
You're a vile one, Mr. Grinch.
You have termites in your smile.
You have all the tender sweetnessOf a seasick crocodile.
Mr. Grinch.Given the choice between the two of youI'd take the seasick crockodile.
You're a foul one, Mr. Grinch.
You're a nasty, wasty skunk.
Your heart is full of unwashed socks
Your soul is full of gunk.Mr. Grinch.
The three words that best describe you, are, and I quote: "Stink. Stank. Stunk.
"You're a rotter, Mr. Grinch.
You're the king of sinful sots.
Your heart's a dead tomato splotWith moldy purple spots,Mr. Grinch.
Your soul is an apalling dump heap overflowingwith the most disgraceful assortment of deplorablerubbish imaginable,Mangled up in tangled up knots.
You nauseate me, Mr. Grinch.
With a nauseaus super-naus.
You're a crooked jerky jockeyAnd you drive a crooked horse.
Mr. Grinch. You're a three decker saurkraut and toadstoolsandwichWith arsenic sauce.

Spongebob, Iceskates, Krabby Patties & Turkey

The end of two very long weeks has finally come. Alex's 6th birthday finally arrived after months of planning. To save me some grief, money and days of obsessive planning, I decided to tone his yearly bash to manageable chaos. One of the things he and I dearly love to do is ice skate, so what better place to have a party than at the local rink? The guest list was scaled down to 17 kids (13 of whom showed up). He had a blast! Pizza and my homemade Krabby Patty cake were devoured and the kids all got an hour group lesson from one of the coaches. Set up and clean up were taken care of by the rink staff - so my part was considerably easy. Alex got a ton of presents - and top of the list were a Spongebob TV/DVD player and an MP3 player from the BF.

Thanksgiving this year for me was a bit strange. Since this was the first year my ex and I had to split holidays, he got Alex for the day. What honestly saved me was that my BF, his mom and his kids (aka "the Rats") came over, so I got to cook my big dinner. It was a lot of fun and all about what the day should be.
FOOD - FAMILY - AND LOTS OF LOVE Alex and I both survived the first of many holidays apart, and although we weren't together we were both in each other's hearts.

Guilted...

Slacker? Ouch guys! ...but I get the hint. Apparently the only people reading this thing are my best friends (friends? nah...family) in Australia and my BF. Kind of pathetic, but hell...writing this thing is a hell of a lot better than doing actual work at work. *big smile*

LIFE UPDATE:

There are so few many firsts in life, that you learn to cherish the ones that are tossed your way. I got to play toothfairy. I guess to the non-parental unit, this is not such a big deal, but to me it was. Alex came bounding home from school a few weeks ago exclaiming "I've got a wiggler!". As he stuck his finger in his mouth and pushed around the loose tooth, my stomach lurched. I hate loose teeth. I was the kid who never touched the loose tooth and let it sit there for as long as possible before it fell out on its own. My next dilemma was finding out the going rate for the Tooth Fairy to leave. After surveying co-workers, friends and parents, I got a range of $1-$20! Figuring I had time to deal with this, I decided to sleep on it. Now if you know my kid - he is stubborn, strong willed and once he sets his mind to something , there is no stopping him. His life's goal for 24 hours was to get that tooth out of his head. A phonecall from the BF the next morning at work announced that biting into a Pop-Tart did the trick and out it came. Rut-roh...now I have to go to the ATM. I decided that $10 for a first tooth was appropriate...so that, coupled with a trail of fairy dust (scrapbook glitter) to his pillow made him a very happy camper. Three more teeth are now loose - so looks like the Tooth Fairy gets to don her wings again soon.

Halloween was a blast. My guy decided to be a Red Power Ranger....I thought they were only popular in the 80's, but I am guessing they are making a comeback. Wonder if I should break out my jellies and my Frankie Says Relax t-shirt? We went trick-or-treating with my co-worker and her two daughters. We have done this the past three years, so it was a lot of fun continuing the tradition. It was unseasonably warm which made the evening even better.

How time flies. This Saturday, Alex turns 6. Unlike the usual birthday extraveganzas, this year is going to be rather tame. Mom needed a break. We are having his party at The Westchester Skating Academy and the theme is Spongebob on Ice...lol. It turns out that this was a lot less work for me - so 20 kids and 30 adults later, I have managed to make the party favors, Thank You cards and get everything together with days to spare. Go me (go us, actually my BF had a huge helping hand in this whole thing). The day after the party we are taking him into the city to see The Grinch on Broadway. This should be a very busy weekend - but will post pictures when I can.

Other news....Bec call me!

End of post.....happy guys?
